COBB >> Matt Wotherspoon of Kelseyville High School made it five titles in a row as he shot a 4-over-par 72 on Tuesday morning to win the 24th annual Lake County Junior Golf Championship at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

Wotherspoon finished five strokes ahead of Derek Coulter of Middletown High School to complete his final junior tournament in Lake County on a high note.

Wotherspoon started slowly, making bogeys on his first four holes. He then birdied the par-5 fifth hole, bogeyed the seventh hole and birdied the eighth hole to make the turn in 3-over-par 37. The back nine was an entirely different story as Wotherspoon ran off eight pars to go with a three-putt bogey on the par-4 15th hole to shoot a 1-over-par 35.

Next up for Wotherspoon is the 57th annual California State Junior Amateur Championship, which will be contested next Monday and Tuesday at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murietta.

Coulter carded a front-nine 42 and then caught fire on the back nine. He made birdies on the 14th and 17th holes to shoot a back-nine 35 for an aggregate score of 77. Coulter was the age group champ for golfers ages 16-17. Michael Beverlin of Kelseyville High School came in third overall and second in his flight with a score of 97. Clear Lake High School’s Brenden Allen shot 105 while Jon Vanderwall of Kelseyville High School had 110.
