LAKEPORT >> A juvenile pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck and killed on Wednesday on Highway 29 near Lakeport.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours. According to California Highway Patrol reports, Eugene Odell Jr. of Kelseyville was driving north near Highland Springs Road in his Chevrolet pickup. Just before 3:30 a.m., his vehicle hit a male who was apparently in the roadway.
The impact threw the juvenile from the road.
Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene within moments. They attempted CPR on the male, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have not released the identity of the victim.
As of press time, law enforcement officials had not determined why the collision occurred. They could only confirm that neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be a factor.
