CLEARLAKE >> The City of Clearlake celebrated a successful first National Night Out event at Highlands Park on Tuesday.

The Clearlake Police Department hosted the event that included representatives from Lake County Fire Protection District, the US Army, and Adventist Health.

National Night Out is a nationwide event designed to promote police- community partnerships and enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the community it serves. Lakeport began observing the day four years ago.

“It turned out great and we hope to continue as an annual event,” said Clearlake City Manager Greg Folsom. “Thank you to the businesses and individuals who stepped up big time to contribute to making this a great event.”

Attendees were able to enjoy free hot dogs, snow cones, and cotton candy. Children enjoyed the bounce houses and the rock climbing wall that soldiers had set up.

Acting Chief Tim Celli was very appreciative of the turnout.

“I want to thank our community members who were able to come and join, as well as our employees and volunteers who took time out of their schedules to participate,” he said. “It was awesome to see our employees, families, community members and friends interacting in a such a great environment. Often public safety personnel interact with community members in a time of emergency, crisis or other circumstance that does not afford the opportunity to interact with each other in such a positive manner.”
