MIDDLETOWN >> Lake County Jazzercise owner Beth Rudiger is hosting JoAnn Saccato, MA for two free workshops on Tuesday, August 15 and Tuesday, August 22. The Mindfulness for Stress Reduction workshop begins at 6 p.m. both days. Lake County Jazzercise is located at 15642 Armstrong Street in Middletown. These events are free and open to the public.
Each workshop includes a brief history of mindfulness and recent scientific findings on the benefits of mindfulness, with an emphasis on stress reduction. Simple, guided mindfulness exercises will be explored, including breath awareness, gentle movement and loving kindness practice. The workshop is based on Saccato’s courses and forthcoming book, Mindful and Intentional Living: A Path to Peace, Clarity and Freedom.
Mindfulness is a popular practice that invites individuals to pay kind, non-judgmental attention to their moment-by-moment experience. The scientifically supported approach helps reduce stress and stress-related illnesses, increase focus and attention, decrease incidences of and relapses with depression, reduce anxiety, and aid in sleep and digestive disorders.
“Our bodies are designed for a physical response to stress through our fight, flight or freeze response,” noted Saccato. “The ongoing stressors of today require more of a mental or emotional response, so finding ways to move the enormous amounts of physical energy generated in our body can be helpful in managing stress.”
Lake County Jazzercise instructor and proprieto Beth Rudiger, believes that mindfulness and physical exercise both provide relief from stress and chronic related illnesses.
“Stress saps our energy and is a major contributor to heart disease and chronic pain,” said Rudiger. “We all must find ways to decrease stress if we are to live functional, healthy, and fulfilled lives.”
Jazzercise is a combination of aerobic exercise and dance fitness that contributes to cardio health, strength and flexibility. Rudiger and other instructors at Lake County Jazzercise actively encourage clients to practice mindfulness as they engage their muscles and increase their intensity during a class.
Participants for the workshop are invited to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared for gentle movement.
