Clear Lake fishing guide Ross England photographed this white carpet of dead shad and other fish on Thursday at Windflower Point near Clearlake. Fish die-offs from Nice to Clearlake Oaks have occurred in recent days. According to officials, the hot weather combined with algae blooms has depleted shallow water, especially in many of the lake’s many arms, of dissolved oxygen, which the fish need to survive.
