LAKEPORT >> School was still out for summer, but for teachers who attended the first ever LCOE Teacher Boot Camp the school year started early.

Over 20 teachers from across the county came together for three-days of professional development that covered the basics of teaching and changes in student content standards and instructional practices.

“The Lake County Office of Education provided me with a plethora of useful information to assist my teaching and to benefit my students and their families,” said Anna Cross of Lakeport Unified School District.

Topics included: Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS), Integrated and Designated English Language Development, Educational Technology and Special Education practices in the classroom.

During one session, tips were given for effective classroom instruction and agencies from around the county were invited to educate teachers on the variety of support available to students and families. Agencies involved in this event included Easter Seals, First Five, Lake Family Resource Center, Mother-Wise, SNAP-Ed, Harvest of the Month, and Tribal Health.

These programs presented what they have to offer Lake County residents and how teachers can utilize services to best meet the needs of students and families.

A special thanks goes to Disney Water Sport, Saw Shop, Lakeport English Inn, Debi Freeland, and Twin Pine Resort and Casino for their generous donations. Attendees received a variety of gift certificates, prizes, and services that were raffled off the last day of the Boot Camp.

The County Office of Education provides teachers a place to learn about future professional development opportunities, review available resources, and get up-to-date information including, the #lakEclipse contest this month.
