LAKEPORT >> First Pick Builders raised $2,650 for local charity during Play Ball! II, their second annual charity softball tournament on Saturday, July 22 at the County Lakeside park.
Six teams of the Lake County Adult Soft League competed all day in the summer heat to have the privilege of choosing their favorite charity to receive the proceeds from fundraising efforts. The winning team, Dead Ball Out, chose the Joshua Miles Hanson Memorial Scholarship Fund for the donation of $2,650.
The Fund was created by the Hansen/Lunas families in 2009 to provide scholarships to Clear Lake High School students who have excelled in the creative arts and has awarded $26,000 in scholarships over the last eight years to twenty-five recipients. Applications from students are accepted annually and recipients are chosen based on their participation in drama, music, dance, graphic design and creative writing.
“We are humbled and proud that the community has helped our tournament become such a success”, said Cheryl Pick, who along with her husband Dean, own First Pick Builders in Lakeport. “We more than doubled the funds raised last year and next year’s goal will be even bigger. The Students of Lake County deserve charities like this,” said Pick.
