UKIAH >> The pre-eclipse party was held at the new and improved Ukiah Speedway on Saturday night where fans had a full racing card to cheer for, including the visiting North State Modified Series (NSMS). They also were the first to see the speedway’s newest addition, separate exit and entrance areas that drew solid reviews from the drivers.
NSMS
Kyle Tellstrom set the fast time of 13.09 seconds and won the 60-lap main event while Charlie Collins took the series points lead, moving ahead of two-time defending NSMS champion Darrin Knight.
Pro-4s
Fast qualifier Sammy Nuno (14.179) finished first in the 30-lap Pro-4 modified main. Jimmy Sorrels came in second, Marty Lewis was third, Andy Leuzinger finished fourth and Mike Peterson Jr. rounded out the top five.
Sorrels won the trophy dash and 10-lap heat race.
B bombers
Ron Portlock cleaned up in the B bomber division, winning the heat race and main event and setting the fast time (15.78).
Jr. Jammers
Christian Sanchez won the heat race and main event in the Jr. Jammers division while also setting the fast time (17.989).
Taco Bell bombers
Fast qualifier Loren Powers Sr. (14.719) went on to win the main even in front of RJ Randall, Bob Mook, Kevin Brackett and Bill Kistenmacher. Powers Sr. also won the trophy dash.
Heat race victories went to Mook and Dave Land.
Jammers
David Rogers swept the Jammers class. After setting the fast time (17.023), he won both the heat race and 30-lap main event, beating out Dennis Anderson, Raymond Taylor Jr. and Gene O’Dell Sr.
Jalopies
Tommy Massey took the checkered flag in the 20-lap Jalopies main event in front of Wayne Hunt, Johnathan Warren, Joshua Small and Brandon Small.
Hunt won the first heat race and Small won the second heat race.
Schedule
Racing shifts to the Lakeport Speedway for the Labor Day weekend Lake County Fair. On Sept. 1 there will be Mudd Boggs, on Sept. 2 there will flat track and TT races, and on Sept. 3 there will be a dirt national, jalopy racing and boat races.
