LAKEPORT >> Both defendants in a counterfeiting case entered pleas of not guilty during a court appearance last week.

Louis Anthony Lopez and Christina Elizabeth Williams face charges of possessing counterfeiting plates and possessing forged items. They were taken into custody in June after law enforcement surveillance of a suspected conterfeiting ring operating out of a downtown Lakeport motel.

During the investigation at the scene, officers seized numerous items of evidence including counterfeiting printing plates, counterfeited currency and other evidence of the operation, according to Rasmussen.

A suspect vehicle was seized and towed to a Lakeport Police evidence facility for later processing.

After receiving a search warrant, detectives examined the vehicle and retrieved paper, ink, washing soap, printing equipment and other items related to counterfeiting.

In a previous appearance, the court found sufficient cause to beleve felon violations had been committed by the pair. Williams and Lopez were both found to have numerous arrest warrants from out of area agencies.

Judge Stephen Hedstrom president over the hearing at the Lake County Superior Court in Lakeport during which the two denied guilt.

A jury trial has been set for September 7 at 8:15 a.m. in a department to be announced.

Both defendants remain in custody and are ordered to be present.
