TOMALES >> Despite the best efforts of keeper Cheyanne Obedoza and the Upper Lake defense, the Tomales Braves emerged with a 1-0 girls soccer victory in league action on Wednesday afternoon at Tomales.

It was the first loss of the season for Upper Lake, now 1-1 in league play and 3-1 overall, and the first loss of rookie coach Daniella Santana’s career.

“My girls started playing better in the second half,” Santana said. “They came out in flat in the first half and Tomales did a better job.”

The Braves scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

Obedoza recorded eight saves in the loss, a game in which the Cougars had only six shots on goal.

Along with Obedoza, standouts for Upper Lake were center/back Laisha Altimirano and forwards Katlyn Minnis and Hailey Reams.

The Cougars return home Friday to play Clear Lake in a non-league game at 4 p.m.
