LAKEPORT >> The case of Steven Russell Miller was continued until October after Defense Attorney Anakalia Sullivan received funding for an expert to appear in his support.

Judge Stephen Hedstrom agreed to the delay during a session at the Lake County Superior Court in Lakeport. Miller has already entered a plea of not guilty to all counts.

The 39-year-old is suspected of murder in the death of his 20-year old daughter. Miller faces charges of murder and exhibiting a weapon for the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Hannah Welch of Hidden Valley Lake.

The incident took place in a home in the 18000 block of Spyglass Drive in Hidden Valley on the evening of May 30.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports, Miller left the residence after allegedly firing on Welch and hitting her at least once. Deputies were able to track him down quickly and took him into custody.

The incident was reported to law enforcement by Miller’s mother, who reportedly told law enforcement officers Miller had shot his daughter.

The setting of the preliminary hearing has been moved to October 3 at 8:15 a.m. in Department 4. The defendant has been ordered to be present.
