EUREKA >> The North State Modified Series (NSMS), presented by Protect the Harvest, heads north to Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka on Saturday night for a full program of auto racing.
A Friday afternoon practice is set for the 3/8-mile paved oval from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Redwood Acres Raceway is located on the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds at 3750 Harris Street.
The Bear River Casino/Resort 60-lap feature pays $1250 to the winner, which includes the $250 bonus from Ward Ranches. In addition, the top 15 drivers in the NSMS points standings share in the $2,500 Lucas Oil Tow Money program, plus every driver that enters the event gets $100 bonus tow money. The Lucas Oil Dash for Cash contenders run for $100 to win and $50 for second place.
Randy Houston of Meford, Oregon, was the winner the last time NSMS stopped at Redwood Acres. Darrin Sullivan of Kelsyville also won the Memorial Day event there. Both drivers would like to repeat their victories on Saturday,. but they will have to fend off 20 other competitors who will be there to take home the gold.
The Eureka race is one of three remaining points races for NSMS this season. Headed into Saturday, the points battle couldn’t be much closer. Charlie Collins of Upper Lake moved ahead of two-time defending series champion Darrin Knight of Kelseyville at the last NSMS race in Ukiah on Aug. 19 and now holds a slim seven-point advantage over Knight. The race for third place is almost as close with Eric Johnson of Kelseyville leading another Kelseyville driver, Sullivan, but just 11 points. Yet another Lake County driver, Sierra Furia of Lakeport, sits fifth in the point standings with a 20-point lead over Cloverdale’s Dustin DeRosier.
The North State modifieds join the Redwood Acres Raceway bombers, road runners, thunder roadsters, Legends Cars and mini-stocks on the night’s racing card. For more information visit the North State Modified Series Facebook page or call the NSMS business office at 274-1662.
