LOWER LAKE >> The Clear Lake Cardinals lost a grand total of 23 points in three sets while sweeping the Lower Lake Trojans 25-6, 25-4, 25-13 in North Central League I varsity volleyball action on Thursday evening in Lower Lake.

Clear Lake improved to 2-0 in league play behind a ferocious hitting attack led by Kiana Richardson with 13 kills, Corin Alakszay with 10 kills and Camille Donald with seven kills.

“Everybody does their job and it’s fun to watch,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said. “They played well tonight. They played up the whole way.”

Donald’s night also included a run of 15 straight service points to open the second set.

There weren’t many highlights for the Trojans (0-2). Among them were eight digs by Mikelynn Rowe and six digs apiece from Lily Griffin and Shelby Sapeta.

Clear Lake’s junior varsity club also improved to 2-0 in league play with a hard-fought 25-23, 21-25, 15-11 victory over Lower Lake. Shelby Butcher had eight kills for the Cardinals while teammate Emily Keiser added four kills and seven assists.

Clear Lake travels to Fort Bragg on Tuesday while Lower Lake hosts St. Helena.

M’town def. Willits

At Willits, Taylor Griffin and Abbey Brown each had six kills and Isabella DuBois added three kills as the Middletown Mustangs evened their league record at 1-1 with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 victory over the Willits Wolverines.

“We really needed that win,” Middletown coach Vanessa Davis said. “We played really well tonight. I’m glad to report we did not make many errors. We’ve been beating ourselves but that didn’t happen tonight.”

Griffin had a pair of aces, two assists and a block to go along with her six kills. Setter Yasamine Heidary finished with eight assists and three aces.

The Middletown JVs also picked up their first league victory with a 25-11, 24-26, 15-5 victory over Willits.

Middletown setter Melissa Conley was the player of the match for the Mustangs (1-1), according to head coach Nikeedra Davis. Conley served eight straight points in the first set and reeled off 13 in a row from the service line in the third set.

“She’s always my first server,” Davis said. “She’s very reliable. It’s just a regular, solid serve.”

Middletown’s teams are home Tuesday to play Cloverdale.

K’ville def. Fort Bragg

At Fort Bragg, Kelseyville beat the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 in NCL I action. The Knights are now 2-0 in the league standings.

Allison Bryant punished the Fort Bragg defense to the tune of 18 kills. Other team leaders were Payton Conrad with 18 digs, Tymeka Green with five aces and 19 assists, and Paige Bour with 12 digs.

“Paige played a really strong game overall,” Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister said. “I can use her as a setter, hitter or in the back row. She just does a good job.”

Kelseyville also won the JV match, beating Fort Bragg 25-17, 25-18. Megan Holland led the Knights (2-0) with five kills, Hayllie Beverlin added four kills, Laynie Wright contributed two kills and three aces, and Kaley O’Boyle had seven assists and two aces.
