MIDDLETOWN >> Aly Ferguson scored three times as the Middletown Mustangs emptied their bench early on during a 7-0 North Central League I girls soccer victory over the Cloverdale Eagles on Tuesday evening in Middletown.

“Everybody got a lot of playing time,” Middletown coach Lamont Kucer said as the Mustangs improved to 3-0 in league play and 8-2-2 overall.

Centerbacks Gracie Armstrong and Kelsey Lemoine anchored the Middletown defense, according to Kucer.

“They did a nice job pushing the ball up to the midfielders, who in turn got it to the forwards,” Kucer said.

The Eagles had few serious shots on goal.

“They never threatened us too much,” Kucer said.

Middletown had a 5-0 lead by halftime. One of the Mustangs’ goals was an own goal by the Eagles.

Brie Alves, Sophie Kucer and Alyssa Terry also scored for Middletown. Assists went to Kassi Agapoff, Ellie Bazzano, Nayla Chaires, Maddie Ferguson and Abby Sabater.

The Mustangs stay home Thursday to play Kelseyville at 4 p.m.

In other girls soccer action Tuesday:

Kelseyville 2, Willits 0

At Kelseyville, Kat Brown kept Willits out of the net in a rare start at keeper for Kelseyville, then Brown put one in the net, which proved to be the winning goal as the Knights blanked the Wolverines in NCL I action.

Brown made a couple of incredible saves at keeper to keep the game scoreless in the first half and she might have spent the entire game there if not for one thing.

“It was still scoreless with about 15 minutes left,” Kelseyville coach Eric Hoefler said.

So Hoefler took Brown out of the net and moved her up front where she scored two minutes later to make it 1-0. Brisa Villa’s goal about seven minutes later sealed the victory for the Knights, now 2-1 in league play and 3-3 overall.

“She was our Marshawn Lynch today,” said Hoefler in comparing Brown to the Oakland Raiders running back. “We put her into beast mode and she picked up some big first downs for us in the fourth quarter.”

Clear Lake 1, Fort Bragg 0

At Fort Bragg, Clear Lake’s Kortnie Reynolds knocked one through the wickets with 10 minutes left to play as the Cardinals edged the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in NCL I play.

“It was a lucky thing but we’ll take it,” Clear Lake coach Tommy Burke said of Reynolds’ shot, which rolled between the legs of a Fort Bragg defender in front of the goal.

“It was a jumbled up mess in front of the net,” Burke said of the game-winning play.

Clear Lake’s defense came up with another strong performance anchored by Mavis Pyorre, Skye Bruch and Regina Faalelea.

The Cardinals, now 2-1 in league and 4-4 overall, are back on the road Thursday to play Willits at 4 p.m.
