MIDDLETOWN >> The Kelseyville Knights finally found the back of the net … six times to be exact … while beating the Middletown Mustangs 6-0 in a North Central League I boys soccer contest on Thursday at Middletown High School.
Kelseyville, the three-time defending league champion, posted its first league victory this season and is now 1-2-1. Middletown fell to 0-3-1.
While the Knights have struggled on the offensive end this year, that wasn’t the case on Thursday. They scored their first two goals in the opening half and came back with four more in the second half to sew up the victory.
“It feels good to get a win,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said. “They (Mustangs) gave us a game early on. They had two shots go off the post.”
“I know the score doesn’t show it, but we played a pretty good game,” Middletown coach Luis Chairez said of his young squad. “I think we played a really good first 30 minutes, then we got sloppy and made some silly mistakes that led to their goals. In the second half we had a hard time maintaining possession, especially in the middle.”
Trey Conrad came off the bench to score both Kelseyville’s first-half goals. Agustin Ortega, Anthony Pantaleon, Justin Perez and Damian Ledesma all scored in the second half.
In other boys soccer action Thursday:
Willits 3, Clear Lake 0
At Willits, the Willits Wolverines scored three quick goals midway through the first half and went on to shut out the Clear Lake Cardinals in NCL I action.
“We’ve been working in practice to be more aggressive and we were in the first 10 minutes, then we fell apart,” Clear Lake coach Shaun Hornby said. “They scored a goal, it was a lucky goal, and our kids just put their heads down. We were one goal down and they were acting like it was over.”
Willits took advantage of Clear Lake’s foul mood to score twice more for a 3-0 halftime lead.
“The second half we held them but we couldn’t score anything,” Hornby said. “The guys I need to score aren’t doing it. I don’t know what to do.”
