UPPER LAKE >> Josh Williams’ hat trick and two more goals from Benat Love propelled the Upper Lake Cougars to a 7-4 victory over the Laytonville Warriors in North Central League III boys soccer action on Friday in Upper Lake.

Pedro Alvardo and Bailee Byrd also scored for the Cougars, who took a 3-2 lead into the second half.

“Everybody was battling hard,” Upper Lake coach Kevin O’Brien said. “We played a strong game overall.”

Upper Lake returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Stoney Point in Santa Rosa.

At Upper Lake, Roseland Collegiate Prep did all of its scoring in the first half and held on to beat the Upper Lake Cougars in league play.

Katlyn Minnis scored with an assist from Julia Mooney in the first half for the Cougars, who fell to 2-6 in league play and 4-7 overall. Laisha Altimirano scored an unassisted goal in the second half.

“She was our standout player today,” Upper Lake coach Daniella Santana said of Altimirano, one of the Cougars’ team captains.

Santana said the Cougars entered play missing several players and had no substitutes.

Upper Lake hosts Rincon Valley Christian on Tuesday.
