SANTA ROSA >> Upper Lake High School girls soccer coach Daniella Santana can’t wait for her offense to awake up from its long slumber.
The Cougars fell 3-1 at to visiting Calistoga on Wednesday, just a day after getting shut out by the Mendocino Cardinals 2-0 at Mendocino. The two league losses drop the Cougars’ record to 2-8 and 4-9 overall.
“Our offense didn’t really wake up until the second half,” Santana said of the loss to Calistoga.
The Wildcats tallied three goals in the first half and the score didn’t change until Upper Lake’s Cheyanne Obedoza booted one into the back of the net with an assist from Julia Mooney in the second half.
In the loss to Mendocino on Tuesday, it was more of the same for the Cougars.
“Not many opportunities transitioning from the defense to the forwards,” Santana said.

At Santa Rosa, the Upper Lake Cougars suffered their first NCL III loss in a defensive battle against Stony Point.
“We played really well,” Upper Lake coach Kevin O’Brien said. “You don’t walk away from many losses feeling positive, but the boys never hung their heads and worked hard the entire game. If you’re going to take a loss, that’s the kind of loss you want.”
Standouts for the Cougars (2-1 league, 2-9 overall) were Pedro Alvardo, Jason Martinez and Richard Guadycan, according to O’Brien.
“Pedro played a solid game and Jason came off the bench and made some plays for us,” O’Brien said. “Richard played out of position, moving from keeper to center-fullback and did a good job.”
The Cougars return to action Friday under the lights at Potter Valley where play begins at 6 p.m.
