LAKE COUNTY >> The Cities of Clearlake and Lakeport, California Highway Patrol and the County of Lake are teaming up to offer an opportunity to get rid of junk cars, motorhomes, car parts, travel trailers and more.

Cities are asking those interested in having a car removed to set an alert on one’s phone and mark calendars for Vehicle Amnesty Days in Lake County. This effort to remove cars off of neighborhoods will take place on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.,

Both days, standard vehicles, such as cars, trucks, and vans, can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kelseyville Auto Salvage, 7666 State Hwy 29, west of Kit’s Corner, in Kelseyville.

Larger vehicles such as motorhomes, recreational vehicles, trailered boats, school buses, and travel trailers can be taken to Jones Towing, 923 Parallel Dr., in Lakeport.

For those unavailable during those days, vehicles can be received at both locations on Wednesday, October 18 and Thursday, October 19. However, one must contact the tow companies ahead of time, and drop off vehicles during business hours.

Motors (without oil), vehicle parts and batteries can also be brought to both amnesty sites for free disposal. Extra tires and garbage will not be accepted.

If a car is not registered, the Lakeport Department of Motor Vehicles will provide a one trip permit for each vehicle, free of charge and if there are no title documents.

For more information, call Lake County Code Enforcement at (707) 263-2309.
