LAKE COUNTY >> The Rotary Club of Lakeport is sponsoring the 27th annual Konocti Challenge cycling event on Sautrday with the start and finish lines at the Skylark Shores Resort in Lakeport.

The Konocti Challenge features different courses for different horses, which means riders of all skill levels will find the course that best suits them from among the four courses offered. The event, which is expected to bring in 750 riders, is among the premier bicycle competitions in California and attracts riders from throughout the world. Cycle CA! Magazine named the Konocti Challenge “The Best Metric Century of 2014” and honored the event with its “Excellence in Service” award in 2015.

The fun starts Friday at 4 p.m. at the Skylark Shores Resort with wine tasting. Riders can pick up their event packets until 7 p.m.

The Konocti Challenge begins on Saturday from the water’s edge at Skylark Shores. Riders competing in either the 65-mile or 100-mile races are released between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Riders competing in the 20-mile and 40-mile races are released between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Title team reunion

MIDDLETOWN >> Middletown High School’s section-winning football team of 1997 will be honored on the 20th anniversary of its historic season during halftime of the Mustangs’ homecoming game with Clear Lake on Oct. 13 at Bill Foltmer Field.

Members of the 1997 team are asked to send a Facebook message to Nyla Norris if they plan on attending.

Alumni from coach Bill Foltmer’s other teams, including the 1999 and 2001 section-winning clubs, are also invited to attend the homecoming celebration.

Foltmer’s first season at Middletown was in 1985. He is currently in his 33rd year with the Mustangs.

Fishing club tourney

CLEARLAKE >> The Lake County High School Fishing Club is holding its third annual tournament out of Redbud Park in Clearlake on Nov. 5. The club needs boaters who can take the fishermen out on the lake.

Tennis league meets

KELSEYVILLE >> The Konocti Junior Tennis League fall session is underway. Free tennis instruction is offered to players ages 8-18 on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon at the Gard Street courts in Kelseyville.

The Gard Street courts are located just off Third and Main streets in Kelseyville. Racquets are provided but players need to bring their own water.
