A Lake County man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle crashed on Highway 20 east of Ukiah, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, the 41-year-old resident of Upper Lake was driving his green, 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Hwy 20 at speeds “in excessive of 100 mph” around 10:40 p.m. Sept. 29 when “for an unknown reason, the motorcycle left the roadway.”

The motorcycle first hit a reflector post, then overturned multiple times before both the motorcycle and the driver hit a rock pile.

The driver was killed and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. He was reportedly wearing a helmet.

On Saturday, four people were injured in a rear-end collision on Highway 1 near Jug Handle State Park.

According to the CHP, a 69-year-old Fort Bragg woman had stopped her 2005 Subaru to make a left-hand turn off of southbound Hwy 1 near Jug Handle State Park around 3:20 p.m. Sept. 30 when her vehicle was rear-ended.

The CHP reports that a 45-year-old Stockton woman was also driving southbound on Hwy 1 in a 2016 Nissan and “failed to see the Subaru stopped in the lane ahead of her and collided into its rear.”

The driver of the Nissan and her two minor passengers, as well as the driver of the Subaru, all received minor injuries and were taken to Mendocino Coast District Hospital.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs are considered contributing factors.
