LAKEPORT >> The High School Bucket Challenge sponsored by Mendo Mill Home Center & Lumber Co. in Lakeport recently raised $3,200 for the sports programs at Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Upper Lake high schools.

Mendo Mill stores in Lakeport, Clearlake, Ukiah, Willits and Fort Bragg sell 5-gallon buckets to customers for $5 during the annual Bucket Challenge, which is held for a limited number of days at each store. Customers receive a 20-percent discount for all items (with some exceptions) placed in the bucket and purchased during the Bucket Challenge. Mendo Mill then matches the $5 for each bucket sold for a total donation of $10 to the school of the customer’s choice.

Customers at the Lakeport store, located at 2465 S. Main St., can donate the money to either Kelseyville, Clear Lake or Upper Lake high schools while customers at the Clearlake store, located at 5255 Old Highway 53, can earmark their donation for either Lower Lake or Middletown high schools. Stores in Ukiah, Willits and Fort Bragg donate the money to their local high schools.

Clear Lake received $1,440, Kelseyville $1,050 and Upper Lake $710 from the recent Bucket Challenge at the Lakeport store. Mendo Mill regional manager Steve Bricker was on hand Wednesday afternoon along with other Mendo Mill employees to present checks to athletic directors Milo Meyer of Clear Lake and Scott Conrad of Kelseyville, and to Upper Lake principal Sandy Coatney.
