LAKE COUNTY >> The 27th running of the Konocti Challenge cycling event is set to occur this morning and afternoon on Lake County highways.
This event, produced by the Rotary Club of Lakeport, brings in hundreds of cyclists and their guests into Lake County to participate in this very unique and fun event. According to race organizers, the event brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars to our economy and showcases the area for the cyclists to come back and visit at other times during the year.
But it also means drivers must be aware. State law requires vehicles leave 3 feet of space when passing a cyclist.
The ride is staged from the Skylark Shores Resort in Lakeport with the cyclists leaving between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. They should all be off the roads by no later than 6 p.m.
There are 4 different routes: a 20 mile, a 40 mile, a 65 mile and a 100 mile. The 20 mile and 40 mile routes travel through Scotts Valley and to Kelseyville through Big Valley.
The 65 and 100 mile routes circle Clear Lake with the 100 mile route travelling to Middletown an up and over Cobb Mountain.
