LAKEPORT >> Gilberto Orozco scored twice as the Lower Lake High School boys soccer team defeated the Clear Lake Cardinals 4-2 in North Central League I action on Monday afternoon at Don Owens Stadium in Lakeport.

Gerardo Rodriguez and Miguel Martinez also scored for the Trojans (6-2-1 league, 7-3-1 overall). Lower Lake took a 3-0 lead into halftime but Clear Lake (2-6-1, 3-6-1) did make a game of it in the second half.

“We were asleep for the first 20 minutes and that’s when they scored their first two goals,” Clear Lake coach Shaun Hornby said.

Alexis Pizano’s penalty kick and another goal from Flavio Pizano’s trimmed Lower Lake’s lead to 3-2.

“We had opportunities to tie it up numerous times but just couldn’t do it,” Hornby said.

Lower Lake coach Javier Michel said he felt the Trojans were in control the entire way, even when Clear Lake made it a one-goal game in the second half.

“We were in charge,” Michel said. “We played pretty good.”

Clear Lake returns to action Tuesday at home against Willits. Lower Lake’s scheduled home game with Cloverdale on Tuesday has been postponed because the Eagles are out of school this week because of the fires still burning in the Sonoma County area. Lower Lake returns to action Thursday at home against Fort Bragg.
