LAKEPORT >> The Lower Lake Trojans didn’t win their first game of the season on Monday, but they also didn’t lose, pulling out a 3-3 tie with the Clear Lake Cardinals in North Central League I girls soccer action at Lakeport.

Lower Lake entered play 0-8 in the league standings and 0-11 overall, but scored with four minutes remaining to earn the draw against Clear Lake (5-3-1, 8-6-1).

“We made some silly errors tonight,” Clear Lake coach Tommy Burke said. “We didn’t put enough pressure on them. The week off didn’t do us any favors.”

NCL I teams did not play a week ago because of the fires around the North Coast, travel conditions and the unhealthy air created by all the smoke.

“Our girls didn’t like it, it didn’t help us out,” Burke said of the week of inactivity.

Clear Lake scored the only goal of the first half, that coming on a Nicole Duncan shot with an assist from Kortnie Reynolds. The Cardinals opened up a 3-2 lead in the second half on the strength of another Duncan goal assisted by Tiana Jardstrom, followed by a Jardstrom goal.

Lower Lake rallied for the tie in the closing minutes. The Trojans did not report their scoring.

Clear Lake returns to action Tuesday and hosts Willits. The Cardinals hit the road Thursday to take on Middletown. Lower Lake’s scheduled home match Tuesday with Cloverdale has been postponed. The Trojans are home on Thursday to play Fort Bragg.
