CLEARLAKE >> During the time portions of Clearlake had mandatory evacuation orders in pace for the Sulphur Fire, the Clearlake Police Department increased its staffing to patrol the evacuated area.

From the time the evacuations started on October 9 until they were lifted on October 13, patrols encountered several people in closed areas, arresting one on suspicion of prowling.

During the four day span, officers took the following people into custody:

– 28-year-old Zanetta Phillips was arrested for being in a closed disaster area and prowling.

– 28-year-old Ernesto Alvarez was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic syringe.

– 29-year-old Ashley King was arrested for an arrest warrant.

– 45-year-old Toll Rainey Jr. was arrested for 5 arrest warrants.

– 52-year-old Ronald Wardall was arrested for an arrest warrant.

In order to increase patrols in the evacuation zone, the CPD received support from other agencies. Joining the effort were California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Highway Patrol, California State Parks, Lake County District Attorney’s Office, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Lakeport Police Department.

“The Clearlake Police Department would like to thank the law enforcement agencies that helped during the Sulphur Fire evacuation in Clearlake,” said CPD Sgt. Tim Hobbs in a prepared statement. “With their help, we were able to provide a visible law enforcement presence in the evacuated area.”
