HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> A woman was hospitalized in serious condition and a Hidden Valley Lake man taken into custody after an unusual incident on Friday evening.
Detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrested Marcus Iano, alleging attempted murder. His girlfriend remained alive but unconscious as of Wednesday afternoon with an apparent bullet wound to the head.
On Friday, however, Iano and his mother, Susan Iano, reportedly transported the victim to Adventist Health Hospital in Clearlake, reporting a possible overdose. The woman was unresponsive at the time.
The situation changed as doctors began to examine the victim.
“At approximately 6: 30 p.m. deputies were notified that an exam found evidence that the female had a foreign body in her brain indicating a possible bullet wound or similar injury,” said LCSO Lt. Corey Paulich in a prepared statement. “She was unconscious and was flown to an outside area hospital for further treatment for life threatening injuries.”
According to Paulich, Marcus Iano had left the victim at the hospital. He returned later, but was at home when detectives served a search warrent and took him into custody.
He was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was booked facing attempted murder charges.
“It is unknown at this time if she will recover from her injuries,” Paulich said of the victim.
Marcus Iano is currently being held at the Lake County Jail with a bail amount set at $1,500,000.
