The Lakeport Unified School District (LUSD) extends many thank yous to the workers and volunteers who contributed to making our International Walk to School Day event a huge success.

Thank you, Nancy Ruzicka, for the use of the High Street Village shopping center parking lot, where we were able to gather and start our walk to school.

Thank you, City of Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen and Public Works Director Douglas Grider, members of the California Highway Patrol, all of the city police officers, Fire Department personnel, and Public Works employees who helped develop our staging area, kept the flow of traffic for drop-off moving through the center, and kept our students safe along the way.

We are grateful to our committee members including Lori Holmes (balloons marking the staging area), Diane Gunther (first aid), and Schad Schweitzer (shuttle to staging area). Additionally, we thank the school district’s board members and LUSD administrators for their support and participation.

Special thanks are extended to band instructor Jenni Ingram and the Clear Lake High School marching band who led our walkers on the two separate walks (going the extra mile by walking back to the staging area, with instruments in hand, between the walks).

Clear Lake High School students, including members of the girls’ volleyball team, the cheerleaders squad, soccer teams and the Latino Club, who helped in the staging area and walked with the younger students, thank you for your participation.

Many thanks to Clear Lake High School instructor Adam Evans who created the awesome banners and posters used for our event. We are grateful to the Food Services team, led by Director Jackie Courtney, for providing breakfast to our students and volunteers the morning of the Walk.

We thank the numerous parents/guardians, LUSD personnel, and students who participated in Walk to School Day. A special shout-out goes to our school neighbors and community friends who showed up along the route and cheered our students on.

Finally, we are grateful to the Lake County Office of Education and numerous media personnel for their contributions to our event, enhancing the activity and supporting our students.

April Leiferman is Superintendent, Jessica Libbee is Director of Curriculum & Instruction and Sue Stout is Secretary, Curriculum & Instruction for the Lakeport Unified School District
