UPPER LAKE >> Benat Love and Josh Williams each had two goals and an assist on Friday as the Upper Lake Cougars held off the Point Arena Pirates 5-4 in a North Central League III boys soccer game that saw one player from each team ejected at Upper Lake High School.

“It was another very physical game,” Upper Lake coach Kevin O’Brien said. “We were playing for the second time in a week and it got pretty chippy out there. That will happen when you play the same team twice in a couple of days.”

Point Arena beat Upper Lake 1-0 on Tuesday in Point Arena.

Upper Lake (6-3 league, 6-11 overall) took a 3-1 lead into halftime and then held on in the second half as the Point Arena offense came alive.

“I was proud that the boys held it together,” O’Brien said. “We let them back in the game by committing a lot of fouls.”

Pedro Alvardo also scored for the Cougars and Bailee Byrd had two assists.

Kelseyville coach Eric Hoefler credited his back line of Sayra and Paolo Cacho and keeper Juliana Peters with keeping Upper Lake (5-13) off the scoreboard.

“They played great back there,” Hoefler said. “The whole crew did a really good job.”

Alexis Parra assisted on Brown’s goal in the second half.
