PETALUMA >> JD Prescott rushed for 103 yards and three touchdown and Patrick Mick returned an interception 56 yards for another score Saturday as the Kelseyville Knights routed the St. Vincent Mustangs 62-6 in North Central League I varsity football action in Petaluma.
The win keeps Kelseyville (4-1 league, 5-2 overall) tied with Lower Lake (4-1) for second place in the league standings, one game behind Middletown (5-0). The Knights return home Friday to play Willits before wrapping up the regular season Nov. 3 in Fort Bragg.
“We were able to accomplish all of our team goals,” Kelseyville coach Erick Larsen said. “We worked on our passing game. On defense, we repped different schemes against their spread offense, which we’ll see from other teams that we face in the playoffs.”
And despite the lopsided nature of the game, Larsen said he was pleased to see his team play “with discipline” and maintain its focus.
“The other good thing is a lot of kids got playing time,” Larsen said. “We had our second string in there for a lot of the game but you can’t tell them not to play hard.”
Kelseyville received touchdowns from six different players. Mick also rushed for a 40-yard score. Quarterback Alex Garcia ran for another TD and passed for two more, a 15-yarder to Scott Sanchez and a 5-yarder to Aidan McAdon, both in the second quarter.
Kelseyville led 12-0 after one quarter and 36-0 at halftime. Game officials began running the clock in the second quarter.
St. Vincent (0-6, 1-7) travels to Lower Lake on Friday where the Trojans will be celebrating their homecoming.
Prescott also led the Knights on defense with five tackle and three assists. Bryan Carillo contributed on both sides of the line of scrimmage as well, rushing for 53 yards and a touchdown, kicking two extra points, recovering a fumble and recording one of the Knights’ three quarterback sacks.
Garcia completed 7 of 15 passes for 112 yards and had one of the Knights’ three interceptions as Kelseyville’s defense forced four turnovers.
