WILLITS >> The Kelseyville High School cross country teams scored against Willits and St. Helena on the 2.87-mile Brooktrails course Wednesday afternoon where Knights standout Yareli Lozano won her sixth race of the season.

Lozano, a senior, won in 19 minutes, 53 seconds, a time that would have been a few seconds faster had not Lozano slowed at one point to make sure she was on the right path, according to Kelseyville coach Jeff Weller.

“She looked super strong and she was pushing herself,” Weller said.

Four other Knights finished in the top six. Laurel Weller came in second (21:57), Bailey Huggins was third (23:42), Brianne Henry finished fifth (23:58), and Bailey Couey was sixth (24:47). Another Kelseyville runner, Nicole Stevens (24:47), also placed in the top 10.

In team scoring, the Knights defeated St. Helena 18-44 and beat an incomplete Willits squad (fewer than five runners).

Varsity boys

Paden Collard of Cloverdale won the varsity boys race in 16:24 while Kelseyville’s Luis Mosqueda came in second in 17:41. Also in the top 10 from Kelseyville were Jeff Amendola, fourth in 17:49, and Beau Marek, ninth in 19:10.

Schedule

Kelseyville wraps up its dual meet season next Wednesday in Fort Bragg where the Knights will score against Middletown.
