MIDDLETOWN >> The public is invited to Middletown Art Center (MAC) for the opening reception of WATER! today from 6-8 p.m. The show features works by local artists pertaining to the element water, source of creation, sustainer of life, natural resource, emotional body, and political pawn.
This carefully curated display will be on view through December 3. It includes stunning landscapes, abstractions, marine and mythological creatures, statement art, and other timely and refreshing works. Those interested in attending a Halloween party afterwards may come in costume.
Contemporary art exhibits are presented at the MAC every six or seven weeks. The next show will be the MAC Professional Members’ Holiday Show, which opens on December 9 as part of Christmas in Middletown. In addition to the Member’s exhibit, MAC’s classroom studio will be transformed into an Art Market for the evening. Artists are welcome to apply for a table at http://www.middletownartcenter.org/artists.html. Space is limited.
Artists and the general public are encouraged to make themselves aware of upcoming programming at MAC including exhibits, child and adult art classes, concerts, films, and community events. Current offerings include the Resilience Project — low cost classes in Photography, Creative Writing, Painting and Printmaking which cycle every 1st through 4th weekend of the month until May 2018. The project is part of MAC’s continuing fire recovery efforts and provides equitable access to the arts, thanks to a grant from the California Arts Council, with support from Adventist Health. This week MAC is offering Printmaking with focus on subtractive monotypes. Adults of all ages and teens 12 and up of all levels and experience, from novice to professional, are welcome to attend. Visit www.Middletownartcenter.org/resilience for more information about the Resilience Project and other programs at MAC.
After the opening reception, the MAC gallery will be open Thursdays 11-4 p.m., Fridays 11-6 p.m., Saturdays 10-6 p.m. and Sundays 11-4 p.m. or by appointment.
