SAN RAFAEL >> Upper Lake High School’s volleyball season ended Tuesday night with a 25-10, 25-21, 26-24 loss to No. 2 seed Marin Academy in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division V playoffs at San Rafael.
The first-round playoff loss notwithstanding, it was another solid season for the Lady Cougars (11-6) and head coach Raelene Cromwell, who watched her squad finish second in the North Central League II standings with a 10-3 record.
“I’m very proud of them. They hung in there the best they could,” Cromwell said of the playoff loss.
Upper Lake, the No. 15 seed in the 16-team Division V field, got off to a slow start but began to battle back in the second set, according to Cromwell.
“I think the girls did well,” she said. “They pushed themselves and played pretty hard. Marin Academy covered everything. They did a very good job.”
Briana Binns, the Upper Lake libero, had the best match among the Cougars, according to Cromwell.
“She was solid in the back row and serving,” Cromwell said.
