Lake County’s single-season passing yardage record could fall for the second time in as many weeks when the Clear Lake Cardinals host the Arcata Tigers on Saturday night in the quarterfinal round of the North Coast Section Division V playoffs at Don Owens Stadium in Lakeport. Clear Lake quarterback Alex Adams needs 155 yards through the air to erase the “old” record of 1,978 yards set last week by Lower Lake’s Hokulani Wickard in a Division IV playoff loss to Piedmont. Wickard broke the previous record of 1,868 yards set by Upper Lake’s Mike Merchen in 1990. If Clear Lake (6-3) beats Arcata (8-4) to advance to the semifinals on the weekend of Nov. 24-25, Adams will get a second chance to break the record if he doesn’t do it against Arcata or he can add to his new record. Clear Lake is hosting a playoff game for the first time since 2007. Action Saturday kicks off at 7 p.m.
