The man who led police on a chase after allegedly killing two people in Clearlake Oaks entered a plea of not guilty to all counts during a recent appearance at Lake County Superior Court.
Alan Leroy Ashmore, 61, is charged with two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a semiautomatic rifle in person, assault with a firearm on a peace officer and burglary.
The charges stem from an incident last month that allegedly began with an argument inside the Clearlake Oaks home of Ashmore, who was eventually arrested after a brief but chaotic chase involving gunfire at multiple locations.
The shooting spree left two dead, two civilians wounded and an officer injured. Killed during the incident were 85-year-old Douglas Ashmore, 85, and 64-year-old Richard Braden, both of Clearlake Oaks.
Douglas Ashmore was identified as the defendant’s father.
Judge Stephen Hedstrom presided over the matter, set to continue for the preliminary examination on December 19 at 8:15 a.m. in Department 4.
