The public is invited to stop by either of the two Umpqua Bank locations, choose a child’s card, and sign the register. Items should be returned by December 13 and placed in a gift bag or use one of the gift bags provided by Umpqua Bank. The staff of CWS will see that the gifts are delivered to the children. People who are unable to purchase a gift but would like to sponsor one can notify bank staff who will do the shopping for them. Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Lakeport Senior Center is hosting a free to all ages Community Thanksgiving Dinner on November 23 at 3 p.m. by reservation only. To reserve a spot call 263-4218. This is the first year the center is hosting this event on Thanksgiving Day. The center is relying on the community and needs donations of turkeys, turkey bucks, money and time from volunteers. Business and individuals can sponsor, donate or volunteer by contacting the center, dropping off or mailing donations to 527 Konocti Ave, Lakeport.

Sunday breakfast

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2337 Auxiliary will serve a cooked-to-order breakfast on November 26 from 8:30-11 a.m. at the VFW Post, 3980 Veterans Lane. There is an $8 donation for adults. For information call 994-4748.

Sons in Retirement sets Reno trip

“SIR’ (Sons In Retirement) will sponsor a bus trip to Reno November 28, 29 and 30, Highlight of the trip will be a Christmas dinner/show, the Unbelievables, presenting a yuletide musical to put us in the seasonal spirit. The package includes — bus, 2 night stay at the Silver Legacy, the dinner/show at the Eldorado Showroom, food coupons and a cocktail party. Cost per person, double occupancy $159. UC Master Gardener training class

What: Do you like to garden? Are you interested in helping other gardeners in Lake County? Then consider applying to become a University of California Master Gardener. Master Gardeners are volunteer staff of the University of California who have been trained and certified to extend research-based horticultural information to the public.

The orientation meetings will provide an overview of the UCCE Master Gardener Program and what is expected of a UC Master Gardener volunteer. The information will be presented by current UC Master Gardener volunteers and the Master Gardener Program Coordinator, Gabriele O’Neill. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.

8th Annual Christmas Craft Faire

Big Valley Hall (formerly known as Big Valley Grange) is holding its 8th annual Christmas Craft Faire on Saturday, December 2 from 8-4 p.m. at the hall, 1510 Big Valley Rd, Finley. All proceeds fund Agricultural Scholarships at Kelseyville High School, in memory of long-time members Virginia Sills and Ruby Glebe.

Vendor tables are $20 per table and reserved by calling 707-349-2342 or by sending an email to joantstar1@gmail.com. The deadline to reserve tables is Nov. 24.

Christmas Crafts Faire

Lakeport Senior Center is having its Christmas Crafts Faire Saturday, December 2, with doors opening at 10 a.m.. Over 20 local artisans will fill the entire center with their handiwork, including hand-painted ornaments, tabletop wood lighted Christmas trees, wire-wrapped jewelry, knitted and crocheted items, leatherwork, yard art, dolls, aprons , and more.

Home cooked soups, chili, hot dogs, spiced cider and hot cocoa will be available all day to soothe appetites.

Prize winning raffle tickets will be drawn every hour beginning at 11 a.m. Proceeds support the Meals on Wheels program of Lakeport Senior Activity Center. The center is located at 527 Konocti Avenue in Lakeport, and can be contacted by phone at 263-4218.

Rotary in need of clothing donations

The Rotary Club of Clear Lake is requesting donations of new and gently used coats, winter clothing, sleeping bags, and blankets for The Warm For The Winter program. Specific needed items include children’s items such as socks, thermal underwear, hooded sweatshirts, gloves, beanies, rain coats, and rain boots sized toddler and up. This program is intended to provide warm clothing and other winter necessities to community members in need. Drop off locations are at the Clearlake Community/Senior Center at 3245 Bowers Avenue and The Meals On Wheels Thrift Store at 14773 Lakeshore Drive. The Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Glenbrook Cemetery District Board of Trustees. Interested applicants must reside within the Glenbrook Cemetery District’s boundary and be registered to vote in Lake County. Applications are available at the Lake County Courthouse, Clerk of the Board Office, Room 109, 255 North Forbes Street, Lakeport, or online at www.co.lake.ca.gov on the Board of Supervisors page. The membership on the above referenced advisory board is voluntary.

Christmas coming to Kelseyville

Kick off the holiday season with the 27th Annual Kelseyville Christmas in the Country, Merchant Open House and Parade of Lights, sponsored by the Kelseyville Business Association, on Friday December 1 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Main Street.

Come at 5:30 p.m. and greet old friends and meet some new friends. The Main Street Merchants will welcome you in to their stores to enjoy holiday treats,hot cider and cocoa, as you stroll through town with Christmas music filling the air and smiling happy faces everywhere.

The largest and oldest light parade in Lake County will begin at 6:30 p.m., with Santa leading the parade, followed by the town tree lighting at the Kelseyville Firehouse. Santa will be in Westamerica Bank across the street with music by the Bridge Band and a visit and photo with Santa.

Kelseyville Presbyterian Church will have their famous Chowder and Chili Dinner, St. Peters Church will have hot dogs, beans, tamales and other goodies, Kelseyville Methodist Church will have music and treats. The Sawshop Gallery Bistro will have a miniature quilt display.

Kelseyville merchants are proud to present this evening of old fashioned holiday cheer.

Park Study monthly meetings

Park Study Club meets at noon on the first Thursday of every month beginning in September and ending in May at the PSC Clubhouse. The club is open to new members and is dedicated to raising funds for scholarships, leadership training for local youth, provides the flag that flies over Austin Park, as well as aiding other local charities with volunteer time and donations.  For more information about the Park Study Club, contact Wanda at 274-2765.
