The Clear Lake High School volleyball team went above and beyond during the 2017 season, which came to a close Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the Northern California Division V playoffs against No. 3 seed Mt. Madonna of Watsonville. The Cardinals (29-7) lost a five-set battle with the Hawks, who will face No. 1 seed San Marin in the NorCal championship match on Saturday in Novato. Led by head coach Marci Psalmonds, the Cardinals won a share of the North Central League I championship this season and reached the quarterfinal round of the North Coast Section Division V playoffs before losing to Berean Christian of Walnut Creek. Securing an at-large berth in the NorCals, the Cardinals beat East Nicolaus as well as Northern Section champion and No. 2 NorCal seed Durham in consecutive matches before losing to Mt. Madonna. Five Clear Lake players, including co-MVP Kiana Richardson, were named to the All-League team, more than any other NCL I team.
