MIDDLETOWN >> Today, Middletown Art Center offers a full day of Art and Culture. The day will begin with Printmaking Resilience — Vagabond Etching from noon to 5 p.m., followed by Give Thanks, which involves an Electro-Acoustic dance with live and DJ music from 7-10 p.m.
Inspired from a road trip, a backpack of art supplies and a pasta press, Artist Sage Abella will share a portable drypoint etching technique. “Join us for Vagabond Etching, the first Printmaking Resilience session where we get to print editions of our work. An edition is more than one of the same print,” said Sage Abella. “We’ll play with drypoint etching — an age-old process that produces beautiful, hand-drawn artwork in an evocative antique style. You can reprint and change your etching a little each time you run it through the press.”
Adults and teens 12 and up, whether new to art making or professional, are invited to attend Resilience classes every first through fourth weekend of the month, usually on Saturday. Classes are just $5 and continue through May 2018. Visit www.middletownartcenter.org/resilience to learn more about the Resilience Project and schedule or to pre-register for classes.
“Classes cycle through Photography, Creative Writing, Painting and Printmaking each weekend,” Abella added, one of several instructors of both Resilience Painting and Printmaking, as well as a participant in Resilience classes when not teaching. “I am so grateful for this opportunity, not only to teach, but to learn from other accomplished local artists.”
Give Thanks ~ There Will Be Bass is a collaborative effort between DJ Nick Hay and The Echo Conspiracy: local musicians Brian Ward, Shane Powers, Frank Frazza of the Higher Logic Project, and Heather Kipnis poet/musician.
The cover is $5. Proceeds go to support MAC, a local arts non-profit dedicated to providing a vibrant cultural hub in South Lake County.
