LOWER LAKE >> Hokulani Wickard moved past 1,100 points for his career on Tuesday night while leading the Lower Lake Trojans with 19 points in a 78-52 season-opening loss to the Mt. Shasta Bears at Lower Lake High School.
Wickard is one of two Lower Lake players — Aleia Milano is the other — who opened the 2017-18 season with more than 1,000 career points. Both players are seniors and four-year varsity veterans. Milano scored 31 points in her 2017-18 debut last week in a 72-25 road victory over El Molino.
On the list of Lake County’s all-time scoring leaders, Milano now stands 21st with 1,176 points. Wickard is 28th with 1,114. Lower Lake’s all-time leaders are Vince Alderman (1,672 points, fourth on the all-time list) and Michelle Day (1,461 points, eighth on the all-time list).
Opening the 2017-18 season with more than 700 career points are Clear Lake senior Tanner Hutton, a third-year varsity player, and Kelseyville junior Payton Conrad, a third-year varsity player. Both Hutton and Conrad make their season debuts on Thursday – Hutton at the Redwood Classic in Boonville and Conrad at the Gridley Tournament.
The Record-Bee honors players reaching the 1,000-point and 1,500-point milestones with custom pins. Upper Lake’s Natalie Karlsson, who has since graduated and is now playing for the College of the Siskiyous women’s team, received her 1,500-point pin last season. She finished her career with 1,846 points (second on the all-time list).
