UPPER LAKE >> On Friday around 5 p.m. a multi-car collision resulted in a fatality on Highway 20, west of Van Sleeper Road in Upper Lake.
The accident involved three vehicles: a Honda, driving west; a Cadillac, driving east; and a Kia behind the Cadillac.
According to CHP, the driver of the Honda made an illegal pass directly into the path of the Cadillac. The act resulted in the left side of the Honda to side-sweep the left side of the Cadillac, causing the Honda to spin out of control while still in the eastbound lane and traveling westbound.
This led the Kia driver to swerve in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. Both vehicles came to rest after the crash the eastbound lane, causing a partial obstruction of traffic.
The driver of the Kia sustained fatal injuries, while the other two drivers sustained little to no injuries.
CHP stated that the collision is still under investigation, however drug intoxication and speed are not believed to be factors. All parties involved wore seatbelts.
The name of the driver who died in the crash is still being withheld, according to CHP.
