UC Master Gardener training class

What: Do you like to garden? Are you interested in helping other gardeners in Lake County? Then consider applying to become a University of California Master Gardener. Master Gardeners are volunteer staff of the University of California who have been trained and certified to extend research-based horticultural information to the public.

The orientation meetings will provide an overview of the UCCE Master Gardener Program and what is expected of a UC Master Gardener volunteer. The information will be presented by current UC Master Gardener volunteers and the Master Gardener Program Coordinator, Gabriele O’Neill. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.

When: two Orientation Meetings for you to choose from:

Monday, December 4, at 5:15 p.m.

Wednesday, December 13, at 12 p.m.

Where: Both meetings will be held in the conference room of the Agricultural Center,

883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport.

National Pearl Harbor Rememberance Day

Pearl Harbor Survivors Chapter 23 North Lake County will observe the 76th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor- Thursday Dec. 7 at Library Park in Lakeport at 9 a.m., Lakeport City Hall 9:15-10 a.m. The speaker will be Ronnie Bogner. There will be a public luncheon after the ceremonies at the Boathouse Restaurant & Bar located at 2685 Lakeshore Blvd. in Nice. The No- Host luncheon will start at noon and reservations are requested by Dec. 4 by calling Janeane Bogner at 707-998-3280.

Rotary in need of clothing donations

The Rotary Club of Clear Lake is requesting donations of new and gently used coats, winter clothing, sleeping bags, and blankets for The Warm For The Winter program. Specific needed items include children’s items such as socks, thermal underwear, hooded sweatshirts, gloves, beanies, rain coats, and rain boots sized toddler and up. This program is intended to provide warm clothing and other winter necessities to community members in need. Drop off locations are at the Clearlake Community/Senior Center at 3245 Bowers Avenue and The Meals On Wheels Thrift Store at 14773 Lakeshore Drive. American Legion 437 dinner

The American Legion Post 437 will serve chili and cornbread on December 8. from 4-7 p.m. All is served for a $6 donation.

Sulphur Fire Relief Benefit Dinner

Woodland Community College Clearlake Campus will host a Sulphur Fire Relief Benefit Dinner on December 8, from 5-7:30 p.m. There will be giveaways and a silent auction with donations from places like Featherbeds Railroad B&B, Bella Rose Photography, Safeway and more. Tickets are $6 for kids under age 18 and seniors 60+ and $12 for adults. To purchase tickets contact Nicole Wright at 707-350-5648.

Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild

Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild will meet on Saturday, December 9, at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Avenue. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. The Installation of Officers for 2018 will be recognized. There will also be a precut party. For more information, call 707-459-3903.

U.S. Cellular customer appreciation event

Clearlake U.S. Cellular associates are inviting the local community to their store on Dec. 8 and 9 for a special holiday Customer Appreciation Celebration. Glenbrook Cemetery District Board vacancy

The Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Glenbrook Cemetery District Board of Trustees. Interested applicants must reside within the Glenbrook Cemetery District’s boundary and be registered to vote in Lake County. Applications are available at the Lake County Courthouse, Clerk of the Board Office, Room 109, 255 North Forbes Street, Lakeport, or online at www.co.lake.ca.gov on the Board of Supervisors page. The membership on the above referenced advisory board is voluntary.

Park Study monthly meetings

Park Study Club meets at noon on the first Thursday of every month beginning in September and ending in May at the PSC Clubhouse. The club is open to new members and is dedicated to raising funds for scholarships, leadership training for local youth, provides the flag that flies over Austin Park, as well as aiding other local charities with volunteer time and donations.  For more information about the Park Study Club, contact Wanda at 274-2765.
