PLACERVILLE >> Girls wrestlers from Kelseyville and Upper Lake took part in the Queen of the Mountain tournament on Saturday at El Dorado High School in Placerville while Middletown’s and Lower Lake’s girls also were in action at tournaments in American Canyon and Concord.
Two of those wrestlers making their season debut on Saturday are state medalists. Both Upper Lake’s Christina Wilson (third in the state at 126 pounds last season) and Adriana Lopez (sixth in the state at 116 pounds last season) brought home first-place medals from Placerville as did Kelseyville’s Bailey Huggins.
Queen of the Mountain
Wilson, Lopez and Huggins all went 3-0 at the Queen of the Mountain tournament.
Several of Huggins’ Kelseyville teammates also came away with medals. Brianna Thomas, Kylie Marlin-Ambriz, Elisa Jaquez and 2017 state tournament qualifier Jasmin Clarke all finished 2-1 to claim second-place medals, and Vanessa Gonzalez was third at 160 pounds with a 1-2 record.
Clayton Valley Shootout
Lower Lake’s Lily Wetmore dominated the 131-pound division at the Clayton Valley Shootout, winning all four of her matches by pin. The Trojans picked up another first from Samantha Reed at 170 pounds. She went 2-1 with two pins.
American Canyon
Middletown wrestlers Angela Egger, Leslie Chairez and Arianna Forest brought home third-place medals from the American Canyon Tournament.
