MIDDLETOWN >> A 13 year old female has been identified as the person responsible for a threatening message written on a wall at Middletown High School.

On Thursday, school officials notified the Lake County Sheriff’s Office of a “vague” threat inked between the high school and middle school. Nothing more was related as to the nature of the message, and investigators reported on Friday that no further threat remains.

However, Facebook posts by at least one person claiming to be the parent of a Middletown student suggest the message was more direct that authorities admit. The parent added that she would not allow her child to attend school on Friday as a result.

According to LCSO Lt. Corey Paulich, however, deputies worked in cooperation with school officials to investigate and indicated the incident is over.

“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the involved parties and their parents,” Paulich said in a prepared statement on Friday. “Based on the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office does not believe any further threat related to this incident exists.”

The Sheriff’s Office did take the precautionary step of increasing their presence on both the Middletown High School and Middle School campuses on Friday. The school is reportedly looking into disciplinary action against the individuals involved.

Any follow up by law enforcement will be made by the Lake County Probation Department. Paulich said that prosecution remains a possibility.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the students and parents who brought forward information to school officials and the Sheriff’s Office to help bring this incident to a safe and quick resolution,” Paulich added.
