Clearlake Oaks >> The East Region Town Hall (ERTH) in Lake County’s District 3 is looking to repair roads in their area and improve traffic flow.
Monte Winters, a newly appointed member of the advisory committee, said the only thing they really need now is funding.
“Somewhere between $100,000 and $300,000, depending on how future expenses are determined, so they are working on how much we want and try to get a grant to cover it,” Winters said.
The town hall, established to help advised supervisor Jim Steele, hopes to secure funds through the Community Service Area. A CSA collects information in their area and reports that to the county Special Districts Department. The county, in turn, sets a priority for projects.
Road repairs have been an ongoing need throughout the county.
“Our roads are, comparably to some areas in the county, in pretty good shape but in reality, they haven’t had any maintenance in a long time,” Winters said. “The county accepted the roads into the county system but not for maintenance so it fell on the tax payers.”
This year the Special Districts Department has arranged for the two cities to look at parts of the unincorporated areas they have and cover some of the road repairs that are needed under a County Road Plan.
“For the first time, we will get a review of our road system and mile by mile what it’s going to cost to get fixed and where the priorities are,” Winters said.
The Denise Loustalot the chair of the ERTH said if the same plan that is being implemented in Clearlake gets put in this community it has the potential of making huge progress.
This process will be seen in that area sometime between February and March Winters said. After that, a road plan can be set up to set priorities.
“It’s phenomenal, it’s working great. There’s some of the roads that have recently got attention that I don’t think have seen get attention in my lifetime. I think it’s great what’s happening and if we can incorporate that out here that would be great,” Loustalot said.
