Saturday sharing and preparing

Kelseyville Presbyterian Church

Rev. Dr. Steve Nesheim

Tonight, December 16, at 5 p.m., KPC will host a special “Blue Christmas” service. Because this time of year is difficult for some, this service is a quiet, meditative one designed for remembering, sharing and preparing for Christmas.. All are invited to a simple soup supper following in the Hall.

The church is located at 5340 3rd St, Kelseyville

Slow down

UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SERVICES CLEARLAKE OAKS AND POTTER VALLEY

Pastor Dawn-Karen Roberts

Joy is our true home. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24, John 1:6-8, 19-28

In a season of holiday haste and hustle, Advent calls us to slow down and prepare. In a world of darkness and violence, the church proclaims a message of light and hope. In a world of division and fear, the coming of the Christ child reminds us of the healing power of love which adds to our joy of the season.

Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians are rather short, but so meaningful as he explains “Spirit and Soul and Body,” with the distinction “Soul,” the principle of life, “Spirit,” the organ of communion with God.

In the history of John’s writings you will find, “John wrote this Epistle that others might share his feelings of Fellowship, Companionship, and Joy, in Christ and in the Father, and with one another.”

We have been looking at the Advent Season, first in Hope, next in Love, and this week Joy

During Advent, we pray all families throughout the world will be drawn closer in Christian faith.

Please come enjoy the Season of Advent with us at one of our churches.

Rejoice in the season and warmth of our congregation at a 9 a.m. worship service in the one-hundred fifty year old Potter Valley United Methodist Church, 10075 Main Street, Potter Valley.

December Advent Sundays give all an opportunity to join with our Clearlake and Clearlake Oaks congregations in historic Clearlake Oaks United Methodist Church, 12487 The Plaza, Clearlake Oaks. Come worship with us each Sunday at noon, and enjoy the true meaning of the season.

Added joy for the season, the Clearlake Oaks UMC and the Lakeside Chamber Players invite all to a violin and piano concert, works of Mozart and others, performed by local musicians Carolyn Hawley and Debra Tully at 3 p.m., December 17. Refreshments will be served, donations appreciated.

How does the church stack up?

Galilee Lutheran Church

Lay leaders Doug Andre and Kris Andre

Isaiah 61 says: “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve….For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing.”

So there it is — our mission in the world. Proclaiming the Word and helping the brokenhearted, the poor, the captives and prisoners, and those who mourn. Everything else is extraneous and unnecessary.

How does the church today stack up? Here’s a quiz…where do the poor and brokenhearted, etc. etc. hang out in Lake County? If you wanted to help them, where would you go?

Galilee Lutheran Church is annointedly located at 8860 Soda Bay Road in the Kelseyville Rivieras. We worship at 10 every Sunday morning, with Bible Study Tuesdays at 7 p.m.. That’s the “Word” part. We also sing every Sunday at 2:45 p.m. at Rocky Point Skilled Nursing Center. That’s one of the other parts.

On Christmas Eve, December 24th, we’ll be having a 10 a.m. service and a 7 p.m. candlelight service. All are invited!
