UPDATED:

A woman was injured Friday when her car flipped over on Highway 101 just north of the Mendocino County line, the Hopland Fire Department reported.

According to Chief Mitch Franklin, HFD crews were dispatched around 9:15 a.m. Dec. 15 to a single vehicle rollover two miles north of the county line between Geysers Road and Comminsky Station Road.

Franklin said the driver was still in the sedan when firefighters arrived, but she wasn’t trapped. He said the car landed on its roof in the highway shoulder near the northbound lanes and wasn’t blocking them, but “we shut down the lanes briefly while we removed her from the car.”

The driver, who was the only person in the car, suffered what Franklin described as “moderate injuries” and was transported to a hospital by Cloverdale Ambulance.

Franklin said the response time of his department was affected by the new safety rail installed in the center of the highway, as there are no openings in it to allow emergency responders to cross.

In order to reach the northbound lanes where the patient was located, “we had to drive past the scene and all the way to Geysers Road before we could turn around. It is very frustrating; it can add several minutes to our response time.”
