ANDERSON >> Alex Garcia, Bryan Carrillo, Javante Gregoire and Jacob Jensen of the Kelseyville High School wrestling team all placed in their respective weight classes on Saturday during the Nor Cal Beast in the North tournament at Anderson High School.
Garcia, who entered the competition ranked 40th in the state at 152 pounds, had the highest finish among the Knights at third. Now 18-3 on the season, Garcia won each of his first three matches before losing by 10-5 decision to Trent Silva of Windsor in the semifinals. He bounced back to pin Connor North of Red Bluff in the consolation semifinals and then beat Elijah Santana of Phoenix by 15-0 technical fall in the third-place match.
Carrillo also won each of his first three matches to reach the 182-pound semifinals where he lost to Regan Dable of Big Valley by first-round pin. Carrillo beat Bobby Crampton of North Valley by 14-2 major decision in the consolation semifinals before losing by 9-4 decision to Garrison Roach of St. Bernard’s in the third-place match.
Carrillo is 11-5 on the season.
Gregoire, a 220-pounder, won his first two matches before losing to Dalton Nichols of West Valley by 9-1 major decision in the quarterfinals. Gregoire rallied with three straight wins in the consolation bracket – by 2-0 and 4-1 decisions and a third-round pin – before earning a rematch with Nichols in the third-place match. This one was closer than the first meeting but Nichols still prevailed 2-1.
Gregoire is 14-7 on the season.
Jensen won each of his first two matches at 132 pounds before losing by first-round pin to Skyler Moore of Del Norte in the quarterfinals. Jensen won his first consolation bracket match by forfeit but then lost to Cameron Garrison of Orland by second-round pin. In the seventh-place match, Ruben Gutierrez beat Jensen by sudden-death victory.
Kelseyville’s boys are back in action this weekend at the Tim Brown Invitational in Sacramento. The Lady Knights travel to Lakeport to compete in the Michael Kroppmann Invitational.
