LAKEPORT >> A truck driver from Henderson County in Texas was booked into the Lake County Jail for alleged arson after a one-room fire broke out at Rodeway Inn & Suites Skylark Shores Resort in Lakeport early Friday night.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Timothy Cofer.

At around 5:30 p.m., Lakeport police officers and firefighters received calls regarding a disturbance and heavy smoke visible from a one-story, multi-unit of the hotel’s left wing. According to Lakeport Fire Chief Doug Hutchison, fire crews reacted quickly and kept the fire from spreading to neighboring rooms.

The blaze was contained within five minutes of arrival thanks to an “aggressive” tactic. Officials found no persons inside the damaged place, nor were any injuries reported as a result.

Kelseyville Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies also assisted in the quick response.

The initial investigation determined the fire was deliberately set after law enforcement found Cofer and examined the damaged room.

LPD and Lakeport Fire are working together to determine the cause of the fire.

Cofer has bail set at $100,000 and is scheduled to appear in court today, as stated on the Lake County Sheriff’s website.
