LAKE COUNTY >> A preliminary magnitude 4.2 earthquake centered near Cobb Mountain, shook the area on Wednesday night.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter was recorded just over one mile northeast of The Geysers, about eight miles from Cobb. The quake, which struck at 9:55 p.m., had a depth of 0.25 miles.

Locals said they felt the shake as far out as Clearlake, while many others in Sonoma and Napa counties said they did as well. Among them was North Coast Senator Mike McGuire, who said, “That was a pretty good shaker.”

No initial word on damage or injuries reported.
