The 1940 satire, ‘The Great Dictator,’ starring Charlie Chaplin (here with Henry Daniell, Jack Oakie and Carter DeHaven), screens at the Soper Reese Theatre on Tuesday, January 30, at 1 and 6 p.m. Entry to the film is by donation. Assistive listening devices available. This comedy is the first bull-blown talkie from the biggest star of the silent era, but this film is no joke. Chaplin had lethal intent in lampooning Hitler and fascism, using the medium of film to stare evil in the face long before the rest of Hollywood even thought it was possible.
