First graders at Riviera Elementary School in Mrs. King’s and Mrs. Jensen’s classes got a surprise one morning when they discovered that the ‘Titanic’ was docked in their classroom. The students received boarding passes and enjoyed a day of immersive learning that included history, engineering, math, science, reading, and writing. Some activities included a study of the ship’s history, estimations and calculations of lifeboats and passenger numbers, looking at leisure time aboard the ship by playing early 20th-century board games and story time. – Contributed photo
